John P. Burke Memorial Fund Scholarship

To be considered for a John P. Burke Memorial Fund scholarship, applicants must submit a completed application containing the required information to the Fund by June 1st.
Eligibility
- At the time the application is filed, applicants must have finished a minimum of two (2) full golf seasons (the current year does not count) of verifiable work at a Rhode Island Golf Association member club in one of the following areas:
- Golf operations: roles such as caddie, golf shop employee, cart or bag room attendant, or practice range staff.
- Golf course maintenance: positions on the grounds crew or course maintenance team.
- Clubhouse front-of-house staff who provide direct service to golfers.
- Examples include wait staff, food & beverage servers, on-course food facility or cart staff, and locker room attendants.
- The student must be employed as either a regular or seasonal worker and typically work at least 18 hours per week.
- Candidates may apply while they are high school seniors or while they are enrolled in college.
Requirements
To be eligible for consideration for a Burke Scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
1. Submit documentation showing an acceptable academic record from an accredited secondary school, an accredited undergraduate college/university, or a verifiable homeschooling academic record.
2. Provide the financial information requested by the Fund.
3. Demonstrate above-average character, integrity, and leadership, evidenced by involvement in extracurricular, civic, and/or community activities.
4. Complete an interview with the Scholarship Committee. (A finished information package must be on file before an interview can be scheduled.)
5. Ensure that all required forms, records, and supporting materials are submitted; it is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure the application is complete.
