Rumba Meats Scholarship

Overview
Rumba Meats, a Cargill brand dedicated to supporting Hispanic culture through food, has partnered with the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute to offer 25 post-secondary scholarships. Each award is a one-time, non-renewable grant of $1,000 intended to help Hispanic youth pursue higher education and leadership opportunities.
Who is eligible
- Must be a high school senior graduating in Spring 2026.
- Must be enrolled or accepted as a full-time undergraduate student at an accredited two- or four-year institution located in the United States or U.S. territories.
- Recipients must confirm full-time enrollment for the 2025/2026 academic year prior to receiving funds.
- Non-U.S. citizens may apply, including DACA recipients and undocumented students.
- At least one parent or guardian must be of Hispanic ancestry.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Applicants must demonstrate verifiable financial need.
- Applicants should show a record of sustained, active involvement in public and/or community service.
Scholarship award
- 25 awards available.
- Each scholarship is a single, non-renewable payment of $1,000.
Required essays
1) Background (500–1,000 words) — Describe your family (parents/guardians, siblings), life and/or work experiences that shaped you, and your most significant accomplishment. If you have faced obstacles or challenges, explain how you overcame them.
2) Your Heritage and You (500–1,000 words) — Explain how your Hispanic heritage has affected your life and daily choices, influenced your leadership goals, and how you plan to honor and serve your community going forward. Include what you believe are key Hispanic contributions to the United States.
3) Optional — Any additional information you believe is relevant to your application.
Post-selection requirement
- After notification of selection, each recipient must submit a short video (approximately two minutes) addressing: “How your Hispanic heritage has influenced your life and how you plan to preserve it throughout your life,” along with answers to any other questions provided.
Application materials (file formats and specs)
- Portrait photo: Recent, high-resolution color image (portrait orientation) with a 2.5 x 3.5 ratio; PNG or JPG. Selfies will not be accepted. The photo may be used in printed announcements.
- Resume: One-page resume in PDF format summarizing work history, academic achievements, and other relevant information.
- Transcript: Most current transcript uploaded as a PDF.
