AZAER Student Merit Scholarship

Overview
The Arizona chapter of the Association for the Education and Rehabilitation of Individuals with a Visual Impairment (AZAER) awards a $500 Student Merit Award to recognize an exceptional student with a visual impairment. This one-time award is intended for students age 4 through 22 who are enrolled in a primary, secondary, or post-secondary educational program.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be between 4 and 22 years old.
- Applicant must have a documented visual impairment.
- Applicant must be currently enrolled in a primary, secondary, or post-secondary educational setting.
- The application must include the signature of the student’s Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI). The TVI must be an AER member in good standing.
Permitted Uses of the Award
The $500 may be applied toward attendance at educational programs outside the recipient’s regular school setting or toward college-related costs such as tuition, textbooks, and supplies.
Post-award Requirements
- The recipient must provide receipts for expenses related to the attended program or educational costs that total the amount of the award ($500).
- The recipient is required to submit a brief letter describing how the program or expenses benefited them. That letter will be read to AZAER’s general membership at a conference and will be published in the AZAER newsletter, AERizona View.
This award is granted only once to any individual.
