Introduction
The Metropolitan Baton Rouge Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. (NCBWMetroBR) is a diverse coalition of advocates committed to unapologetically supporting Black women and girls. We pursue excellence, cultivate future leaders, and serve our community through leadership, dedication, and service.
Mission
This merit-based scholarship program seeks to enhance the lives of Black women and their families by funding initiatives that focus on family, education, health, and financial well-being. We are particularly dedicated to encouraging and assisting promising young Black women in continuing their education.
Scholarship Overview
- Total annual awards: $5,000 distributed each Spring among three categories:
- High School Senior
- Undergraduate Student
- Graduate Student
Who May Apply
We welcome applications from:
- High school seniors graduating from a Louisiana high school who have been accepted to an accredited institution of higher learning (2- or 4-year college, university, or technical/vocational school).
- Current undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning (2- or 4-year college, university, or technical/vocational school).
- All applicants must be either enrolled in or accepted into an undergraduate or graduate program and must have a minimum of two semesters remaining before their anticipated graduation.
Minimum Requirements
- Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Documentation of community-based service, supported by a letter describing the service and hours completed.
Preference Considerations
Applicants who have engaged with NCBWMetroBR activities may receive additional consideration. Preference ranking:
1. Participation in NCBWMetroBR mentorship or other NCBWMetroBR programs
2. Louisiana high school graduate from East Baton Rouge Parish or surrounding area, or students attending an HBCU or other college/university in Baton Rouge or nearby
3. Current HBCU undergraduate or graduate student
4. Any Louisiana-based high school graduate, undergraduate, or graduate student
Required Application Materials (must be submitted by the published deadline)
- A fully completed online application. Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed—no exceptions.
- An official transcript uploaded with the completed application.
- Two separate letters on organization/university/school letterhead, uploaded via the application portal:
- High School Seniors:
- One recommendation letter from school personnel (teacher, counselor, principal, club advisor, etc.)
- One letter documenting community service activities and hours (from a community organization representative, club leader, service project coordinator, church leader, etc.)
- Undergraduate/Graduate Students:
- One recommendation letter from university personnel (faculty member, instructor, research advisor, academic adviser, club advisor, etc.)
- One letter documenting community service activities and hours (from a community organization representative, club leader, service project coordinator, church leader, etc.)
- A typed personal statement (250 words or fewer) explaining why you merit this award and outlining your future plans.
- A personal video that explains your commitment to service, provided as an accessible link in the application.
