INTRODUCTION
The Maine Society of Professional Engineers (MeSPE) offers two (2) scholarships each Spring to graduating high school seniors.
APPLICATION WINDOW & SUBMISSION METHOD
- Application materials for the current award cycle are normally posted in December. See the current-year forms in the Google Drive folder linked on our site.
- Applications are accepted by USPS mail only; electronic submissions will not be considered. All applications must be received with a postmark no later than the deadline printed on the current-year forms (typically mid-March).
- For this scholarship cycle (Vernon T. Swain, P. E. / Robert E. Chute, P. E. Scholarship Program), applications must be postmarked by March 27, 2026.

STUDENT CHECKLIST (items that must accompany your application)
- Test scores meet or exceed the minimum requirements
- Applicant is a resident of Maine
- Application signed by the student
- Application signed by a counselor or principal
- Proof of application to a university or college with EAC-ABET accredited curriculum
- Certified transcript included, properly executed and with an explanation of the grading system
- Essay included, typewritten, double-spaced, and bearing the applicant’s name
- Two letters of recommendation
- Applicant has retained a copy of the completed application
SELECTION CRITERIA (points used to evaluate applicants)
- Grade Point Average (GPA): 20 points
- At least two teacher recommendations: 15 points
- Essay: 20 points
- School and summer activities / work experience: 15 points
- Composite application (overall presentation): 10 points
- SAT scores: 20 points
- Total possible: 100 points
