Hunt Heroes Foundation Scholarship Program

Introduction
Hunt Military Communities Foundation offers a scholarship program designed to support active duty service members, National Guard or Reservists of the U.S. armed services, and their dependents who are pursuing undergraduate or vocational-technical education.

Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following:

- Be an active duty service member, National Guard member, or Reservist in one of the six branches of the United States Armed Services (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, or Space Force). If selected for an award, you must be able to present current military identification to the Sponsor.
OR
- Be a dependent of an active duty service member.

AND

- Be a high school senior, high school graduate, or a current undergraduate planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study (for the entire upcoming academic year) at an accredited two- or four-year college/university, or an accredited vocational-technical or trade school.

Dependent children are defined as natural or legally adopted children, or stepchildren, who live in the service member’s household or are primarily supported by the service member. If selected, dependent applicants must be prepared to provide documentation of dependent status, such as: (a) birth certificate; (b) court-issued custody or guardianship order; and/or (c) marriage certificate.

Note: Active duty service members who are enrolled part-time are eligible to receive an award.

Awards
The total funding available for new awards is $75,000. Up to 20 scholarships will be awarded as follows:

- Ten awards of $5,000 each for students enrolled at four-year colleges or universities.
- Ten awards of $2,500 each for students attending two-year colleges or universities, or vocational-technical programs.

If there are insufficient eligible applicants in the 2-year/vocational-technical category, remaining funds will be reallocated to the next-highest ranking applicants who are attending 4-year institutions.

Additionally, $25,000 of the scholarship pool will be reserved for residents of Hunt Military Communities, assuming there are enough eligible applicants. Any reserved funds unclaimed due to insufficient eligible applicants will be redistributed among other qualified applicants.

Awards are one-time (non-renewable). Previous recipients may reapply in subsequent years if they continue to meet eligibility criteria. Scholarships are limited to undergraduate and vocational-technical programs or certificate studies.

Service members must be on active duty as of June of the scholarship year to be eligible to receive payment.

Notification
Applicants will be notified of selection outcomes in April. Selection is competitive and not all applicants will receive awards.

Notifications are sent by email. When creating your application account, do not use a school or work email address; provide a personal email you will maintain access to. Add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org and the program’s official email address to your safe-sender list to ensure delivery.

Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America administers payments for Hunt Military Communities Foundation. Awards are paid in a single installment in early August and made payable directly to the recipient’s school.

Selection of Recipients
Selection is based on the following factors:

- Community involvement
- Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
- Work experience
- A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
- Significant personal or family circumstances
- An outside appraisal
- Responses to two essays (each 300 words or fewer):
1. How has being part of the military or part of a military family affected your life?
2. What would you like to change in your community and how would you accomplish it?

Financial need is not a selection criterion. Scholarship America makes all recipient decisions independently; no officer or employee of Hunt Military Communities Foundation has any role in selecting recipients. Applicants agree to accept Scholarship America’s decisions as final.

If an awardee does not accept their scholarship within the designated timeframe, the award will be forfeited. Acceptance requires submitting biographical information and a head-and-shoulders photograph to the Heroes Foundation as part of the award acceptance process.
