GBHEM General Scholarships

GBHEM Scholarships provides financial support to United Methodist students working toward undergraduate and graduate degrees. On average, about $4 million in scholarships is distributed each year to learners in the United States and abroad. These funds help students from diverse backgrounds complete degrees and prepare to serve as future leaders in the church and the wider world.
Applying for U.S. institutions
- The GBHEM scholarship application becomes available each January for United Methodist students enrolled at accredited colleges and universities in the United States.
- For the 2026 cycle, the U.S. application portal is open now and will close on March 6.
Who is eligible
To be considered for the 2026 GBHEM United Methodist Church Scholarship Program, applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be either an incoming first-year (freshman) college student or a currently enrolled student (first-year, sophomore, junior, senior) or a graduate student at an accredited U.S. institution.
- Be an active member of a United Methodist Church.
- Hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- Not have already received GBHEM scholarship support for seven award years; applicants who have reached seven years of awards are not eligible for an eighth year.
