Spirit of Youth Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary
The National Headquarters is set to grant each state/department champion a scholarship worth $1,000 (totaling 47 scholarships). This is a new initiative for the academic year 2023-2024.
At the national level, out of the potential 52 state/department scholarship recipients, the National Education Committee will choose 5 winners (1 from each division) to receive a $5,000 scholarship. The selection will be based on a scoring rubric.
The CENTRAL division includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The EASTERN division comprises Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
The NORTHWESTERN division encompasses Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
The SOUTHERN division covers Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
The WESTERN division includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

GUIDELINES
- The candidates eligible for this award must be or must have been Junior members of the American Legion Auxiliary, with a membership record for the past three consecutive years (2021, 2022, and 2023). They must also be paid members for the current membership year (2024). It is mandatory for the applicant to maintain their membership in the American Legion Auxiliary during the scholarship period.
- The applicants should be in their final year of high school or equivalent.
- This scholarship is intended for students planning to attend an accredited higher education institution. Applicants should be of good character and possess grades that meet the entrance requirements of their chosen institution. A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
- All applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM Eastern on March 1, 2024.
