PCB Solutions, a manufacturer of precision printed circuit boards, is announcing the Chuan Ai Lu Engstrom Memorial Scholarship Contest. One winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship applied to their college expenses. About the scholarship This award honors the memory of former PCB Solutions employee Chuan Ai Lu Engstrom, who died of uterine cancer in 2014. Ai came to the United States from China after marrying PCB Solutions’ president, Greg Engstrom, and later became an American citizen. She took great joy in learning English and in her American identity. The scholarship commemorates her gentle, patient, and optimistic spirit—qualities she maintained through difficult times. She is dearly remembered by family, friends, and her husband, Greg Engstrom. Eligibility - Open to any current, full-time student enrolled at an accredited U.S. college or university. - Minimum cumulative GPA: 2.5. - No age limit. Application requirements 1. Essay (minimum 800 words) on the topic: “Describe your vision of electronic design, engineering, and manufacturing in the global economy.” Useful ways to develop your essay include: - If relevant, explain any hands-on experience in manufacturing, logistics, electrical or mechanical engineering, or business that supports your perspective. - Strong entries reference reputable sources. - Propose entrepreneurial approaches to international business, ideas for starting or running a business, and discuss how your management style would support success. - The topic is intentionally broad; applicants may incorporate angles from healthcare, business, science, engineering, etc. - Do not turn the main essay into a personal life history. Personal history should be submitted separately as noted below. 2. Short bio: submit either a brief video or a short written piece that covers who you are, your background, why education matters to you, and how you would use the scholarship funds. 3. Submit your essay as a Word document (.doc/.docx) or PDF by email to: jamesb@pcb-solutions.com 4. Also email a completed Content Contribution Agreement (downloadable form), and include your full contact details, major, and expected graduation date along with your essay to jamesb@pcb-solutions.com 5. Past recipients are listed on the Scholarship Award Winners page. Deadlines and award schedule - Fall semester essay deadline: August 1. Winners announced August 15. - Spring semester essay deadline: December 1. Winners announced December 15. - The program runs continuously with two separate winners selected each calendar year. Selection and notification A PCB Solutions Scholarship Committee will evaluate submissions. Winners will be posted on the PCB Solutions website on the announcement dates above and will also be notified by email. Additional terms - Scholarship funds must be used for school-related expenses. - Once a recipient is chosen, a check will be issued to the recipient’s enrolled institution and applied to academic costs. - The scholarship is non-renewable and covers one semester only. - An individual may receive this scholarship only one time in their lifetime.
